Black Panther Primary
Caption
Lowndes County, AL: May 3, 1966. Lowndes County Freedom Organization (Black Panther) primary. Rather than join the segregationist Alabama Democratic Party, Lowndes County, black voters formed their own party and voted in their own primary on May 3, 1966. The party symbol was a black panther, later adopted by black militants in California. Here party members fill out primary ballots. Lowndes County, Alabama 5/3/1966 /Take Stock / TopFoto
