Freedom Summer Volunteers: living conditions, Mississippi summer of 1964 Summer volunteer, Steve Bingham preparing a report in his sleeping quarters at the Mileston Freedom House. Bingham later became a lawyer and represented Oakland Black Panther leader, George Jackson, who was killed in a prison escape attempt. Accused of smuggling a gun to Jackson, and fearing for his life, Bingham fled to France and lived underground for 15 years. Today he represents indigent clients in San Francisco. Mileston, Mississippi 6/1/1964
